Become a Playful Learning City

Help families discover places where learning, play, and community come together.

The Playful Learning City designation recognizes cities that embrace playful learning throughout public spaces and everday environments.

"By 2050, more than 70% of the world’s population will live in cities...

however, few cities are built with children in mind, even though children are a big part of their population”
– Sarah Lytle, PhD,
Executive Director, Playful Learning Landscapes

The Playful Learning City designation was created to help families discover the best places to visit, live, learn and play together by identifying cities around the world that embrace Playful Learning.

The hallmark of a Playful Learning City is collaboration between officials, developers, designers, community groups and funders to reimagine its public spaces for families and children.

Does this describe your city?

Local Support

Playful Learning Landscapes Can Help you Becoming a Playful Learning City

We work with hundreds of communities around the world on projects that transform everyday gathering spots — bus stops, athletic courts, corner lots, grocery stores, libraries, lobbies — into dynamic, enriching activity hubs for children and families.

Our designs use science-based principles to engage kids and adults in joyful, meaningful, interactive play that empowers children to take the lead, even as they’re guided by caregivers and the environment.

Our installations combine local, on-the-ground community engagement and co-design with the latest science of child development – drawing upon how children learn and what they need to learn to thrive in the future.
