Interactive gateways inviting families to explore and learn in nature
Art in the Park
As part of KABOOM!’s Play Everywhere Philadelphia initiative, Art in the Park at Cobbs Creek activates key trail entrances with interactive playspaces designed to welcome children and families into the greenspace. These installations serve as playful gateways, drawing attention to the natural surroundings and encouraging exploration from the moment visitors arrive.
Through hands-on elements and visually engaging design, the playspaces introduce concepts related to the local ecosystem, wildlife, and environmental stewardship. Children are invited to observe closely, notice patterns in nature, and connect movement with discovery as they transition from neighborhood streets into the park. By blending art, play, and environmental education, the project helps transform everyday park access points into opportunities for curiosity, learning, and deeper connection to Cobbs Creek.
The Learning Goals
Art in the Park at Cobbs Creek strengthens content knowledge by introducing literacy and environmental concepts related to local plants, wildlife, and ecosystems through interactive prompts and visual cues embedded in the playspaces. As children learn and use new vocabulary connected to the natural world, they build foundational understanding of both language and science.
The installation also fosters communication and critical thinking as children and caregivers discuss observations, ask questions, identify patterns, and reflect on their surroundings. Through shared exploration at the park’s entrances, families deepen learning while strengthening meaningful interaction.
