Sensory exploration indoors and musical discovery outdoors
Baring House
As part of HopePHL, the Baring House installation introduces both an indoor sensory wall and outdoor musical Playful Learning elements designed to engage children and caregivers across multiple environments. Together, these features create layered opportunities for hands-on exploration and meaningful interaction.
The indoor sensory wall encourages tactile discovery, pattern recognition, and focused attention through interactive textures and manipulatives that invite children to touch, trace, and explore. Outdoors, musical elements support rhythm, listening, and collaborative play, prompting children and caregivers to experiment with sound and create shared musical experiences.
The Learning Goals
The Baring House Playful Learning installation strengthens communication as children and caregivers explore the sensory wall and musical elements together, describing textures, sounds, and patterns while engaging in shared conversation.
It also supports critical thinking by encouraging children to experiment with cause and effect, compare sounds and sensations, recognize patterns, and problem-solve through hands-on sensory and musical exploration.
The Team
The Baring House installations were created through a collaboration between Playful Learning Landscapes, HopePHL, and Bird Studio.
