Portable playful learning for movement, conversation, and discovery indoors
Drueding Center
As part of HopePHL, the Drueding Center installation introduces portable Playful Learning elements designed to activate an indoor play space for children and caregivers. Centered around an interactive floor mat and guided prompts, the installation transforms flexible indoor space into an engaging environment for movement and shared discovery.
The interactive mat encourages children to hop, count, balance, and problem-solve, supporting active learning through physical engagement. Embedded prompts invite caregivers to ask questions, compare ideas, and extend play through conversation. Together, these portable elements foster communication and critical thinking while creating adaptable opportunities for joyful, brain-building play indoors.
The Learning Goals
The Drueding Center Playful Learning installation strengthens communication by incorporating guided prompts that encourage children and caregivers to talk through challenges, describe actions, and extend play through meaningful back-and-forth conversation.
It also supports critical thinking as children engage with the interactive mat to count, compare, follow patterns, and solve movement-based challenges, building problem-solving skills through active, hands-on exploration.
The Team
The Drueding Center installation was created through a collaboration between Playful Learning Landscapes, HopePHL, and Kristin Lilley.
