The Woodstock Family Center Outdoor Playful Learning project strengthens communication by encouraging children and caregivers to engage in conversation through storytelling prompts, shared reflection, and interactive tabletop challenges woven into everyday seating. It supports critical thinking as families navigate movement-based activities, interpret literacy-inspired visuals, and explore food-themed patterns within the Edible Alphabet design. Through the Care Chair’s mindfulness prompts, the installation also nurtures confidence, helping children practice self-regulation, reflect on emotions, and build resilience in a supportive outdoor setting.
Outdoor furniture designed for mindful moments, storytelling, and playful exploration
Woodstock Family Center
As part of HopePHL, the Woodstock Family Center project introduces Outdoor Playful Learning furniture designed to activate everyday gathering spaces. The installation includes two interactive tabletops and three benches, each thoughtfully designed to support meaningful caregiver-child interaction in an open-air environment.
One bench serves as a “Care Chair”, incorporating mindfulness prompts that encourage children and caregivers to pause, reflect, and talk about feelings. Another functions as a Storytelling Bench, inviting families to imagine characters, build narratives, and engage in shared conversation. The tabletops feature distinct playful learning themes, including movement-based challenges, literacy exploration, and a food-themed “Edible Alphabet” design.
