A vibrant mural celebrating belonging and everyday learning
Jane Addams Place
As part of HopePHL, the Jane Addams Place Playful Learning mural was co-designed with the families who live in the space, ensuring the installation reflects their voices, experiences, and hopes for their community. The artwork draws inspiration from the broader neighborhood and highlights meaningful elements of daily life and familiar community figures.
Through intentional imagery and representation, the mural promotes language development, celebrates diversity, and fosters a welcoming environment where children and caregivers feel seen and valued. By centering family input and everyday experiences, the installation transforms the space into a vibrant reflection of belonging, connection, and shared learning.
The Learning Goals
The Jane Addams Residence Playful Learning mural strengthens communication by featuring familiar community imagery that encourages children and caregivers to talk about what they see, describe experiences, and share personal stories. It also supports critical thinking by prompting children to observe details, make connections to their own lives, notice similarities and differences, and interpret the scenes represented throughout the installation.
The Team
The Jane Addams Residence mural was created through a collaboration between Playful Learning Landscapes, HopePHL, Noelle Burgess, and Lubow Design LLC.
