A music-filled courtyard designed for creativity, rhythm, and joyful connection
Come Play with RMHC Philly
As part of KABOOM!’s Play Everywhere Philadelphia initiative, Come Play with RMHC Philly transforms the courtyard at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and the Ronald McDonald House into a music-themed oasis that sparks creativity and joyful expression. Interactive chimes, rhythm-inspired seating, stepping stones, and bilingual prompts invite children and caregivers to explore sound, movement, and word play together.
Children experiment with tone and tempo, match words to icons, and follow painted ground patterns that guide rhythm and spatial exploration. Set within a healing environment, the installation offers families moments of connection, creativity, and uplifting play during their time at the hospital.
The Learning Goals
Come Play with RMHC Philly fosters creative innovation by encouraging children to experiment with rhythm, sound, movement, and storytelling in an open-ended environment. It strengthens content knowledge in music and literacy through hands-on exploration of tempo, tone, word recognition, and symbol matching. The installation also builds confidence by creating a supportive space where children can express themselves, try new ideas, and share their voices freely.
The Team
The Come Play with RMHC Philly installation was created through a collaboration between Ronald McDonald House Charities Philadelphia Region, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Playful Learning Landscapes, KSS Architects, Watchdog Real Estate Project Management, Andre Chaney, and Future Together.
Supporters
