Fairhill-Hartranft ABCs
As part of the Literacy Rich Neighborhoods Initiative, the Fairhill-Hartranft ABCs features two literacy-rich murals with interactive I-Spy elements, a series of yellow alphabet signs placed throughout the neighborhood, and a digital scavenger hunt paired with a physical booklet. Artist-designed alphabet murals, a companion Look Book, and downloadable conversation cards add playful opportunities for families to explore letters, art, and storytelling together. These elements create interactive, literacy-rich experiences that celebrate community and inspire children and families to engage with language in new ways.
The Learning Goals
The Fairhill-Hartranft ABCs promotes joyful, neighborhood-based literacy learning through playful exploration and discovery. The Alphabet Literacy Scavenger Hunt workbook builds content knowledge and critical thinking as families search for letters, solve riddles, and connect literacy to familiar community spaces. The Alphabet Conversation Starter Card Pack encourages communication, prompting children and caregivers to discuss words, stories, and images they encounter throughout the neighborhood. The Alphabet Literacy Scavenger Hunt fosters confidence as families navigate local sites, recognize letters in context, and celebrate shared accomplishments. Together, these elements transform everyday environments into opportunities for reading, dialogue, and creative play.
The Team
The Fairhill-Hartranft ABCs was created through a collaboration between Playful Learning Landscapes, The Village of Arts and Humanities, and a team of local artists.
