An outdoor nook celebrating neighborhood history through playful discovery
Logan Nook of Discovery
As part of the Play Everywhere Philadelphia initiative, Logan Nook of Discovery activates the outdoor space adjacent to the Logan Library as a welcoming community gathering area. Designed as a playful extension of the library, the nook invites children and families to pause, explore, and engage with installations that highlight the rich history and cultural identity of the surrounding neighborhood.
Interactive signage throughout the space encourages visitors to read, observe, reflect, and respond to prompts rooted in local stories and landmarks. Through movement-based elements and hands-on features, families are invited to connect past and present, sparking conversation and shared exploration. By blending literacy, cultural celebration, and playful design, Logan Nook of Discovery transforms an everyday outdoor space into a hub for learning, pride, and community connection.
The Learning Goals
Logan Nook of Discovery strengthens content knowledge in literacy by inviting children and caregivers to read interactive signage, engage with neighborhood stories, and build vocabulary connected to local history and culture. As families respond to prompts and reflect on community landmarks, they practice comprehension, storytelling, and expressive language.
The installation also supports communication by encouraging shared discussion about the neighborhood’s past and present, fostering meaningful conversation and deeper understanding through collective exploration.
The Team
The Logan Nook of Discovery was created through a collaboration between Indochinese American Council, Playful Learning Landscapes, and TinyWPA.
