During the summers of 2021 and 2022, staff from 32 summer camps across Philadelphia participated in playful learning training to enhance the activities they planned for children. The training focused on ways to promote literacy and reading motivation through playful games and activities. Children engaged in activities like arts and crafts, story writing, and sports, and they used spatial and numeric language while demonstrating confidence, communication, and collaboration. Overwhelmingly, children who engaged with staff trained in playful learning were more motivated readers at the end of the summer.
